Day 3 - Keukenhof Gardens & Bacharach

Goedemorgen from the Netherlands!

Today's adventures began with meeting our bus driver Big John!  He was AMAZING throughout our tour. His luxury motor coach was so comfortable!  We each got our own row to stretch out and there were USB plugs to charge our devices on the road. He even had a stash of beverages up front for purchase if you found yourself with a powerful thirst between rest stops.  Bus time actually became a welcome respite from all the walking!  Mike and Gordy are retired sheriff’s deputies and have done plenty of high stress driving.  Take it from them, watching John maneuver that bus through the mountains was a thing of beauty! The bus stopped every 2 hours for a break.  The restrooms at most stops usually cost 1 Euro, but we often got a credit for 1 Euro to use in the market for food or drinks. We had our first of many truck stop lunches in Germany.  It was really good, especially the apple strudel.

Keukenhof Gardens

But we are getting ahead of ourselves.  Before Germany, we had one more stop in the Netherlands.  We took the bus to the Keukenhof Gardens to see the Tulips.  It rained while we were there, but they were still beautiful.

Bacharach, Germany

Then it was off to our first of three stops in Germany.  John dropped us off in a parking lot across the street from the town.  It was our first experience hauling our luggage to the hotel and we were glad we packed light!  We checked in at Hotel, Altkölnischer Hof and were giddy when we saw our super cute junior suite with balcony overlooking St. Peter's Church.  This family owned and operated hotel and restaurant set a high bar for the rest of the tour. Our dinner together was delicious and the local wine was a perfect pairing.

Gute Nacht from Germany!
